Are landlords planning a co-ordinated rent rise?
Following the failure of a judicial review to overturn recent punitive tax measures hitting the private rental sector, the Axe the Tenant Tax campaign is discussing options, including – according to this – a concerted and coordinated campaign to raise rents. With extra stamp duty for investment and second homes and the end of tax relief on buy-to-let mortgage interest, many landlords are wondering whether it’s possible to make letting pay. Inevitably, rents will rise… either due to a shortage of supply when landlords are forced to sell up, or by a gradual increase in rents to cover expenses. The campaign’s radical suggestion is a transparent rent rise, widely publicised and explained.
