National rogue agents/landlords database secret… and empty

A freedom of information request by the Guardian and ITV News reveals that the Government’s national database of agents and landlords to be avoided… if you manage to access the database, which isn’t public… is empty anyway, six months after its formation. A spokesman has responded that the database only covers offences committed since its April formation and, since it takes months to secure a conviction, the reason for the empty database is procedural. But what about a reason for keeping the database secret?
When the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) was asked via another freedom of information request to spell out why the public would be denied access to the database, it said the reasons behind keeping the database’s contents secret were also secret.
